Re-Elect Woody Koppel as the District 6 member of the Orleans Parish School Board.


Woody’s accomplishments representing District 6 on the Orleans Parish School Board have been significant, including:


  • OPSB schools have risen from 17th in the State when Woody was first elected to 2nd in
    the State today
  • Woody worked to expand educational opportunities in the city through the opening of additional
    classes at Ben Franklin Elementary and the Mahalia Jackson Early Childhood
    Learning Center, as well as giving our successful charter schools, such as Lusher,
    greater autonomy to make decisions that improve academic outcomes for our


  • Woody’s leadership was critical in gaining voter approval for a dedicated funding stream to improve and maintain school buildings so all students learn in well-maintained facilities


  • Woody was instrumental in cutting the Board’s $500 million debt in half through sound fiscal practices and oversight
  • Woody improved the budget controls and finances for the system, earning a top bond rating from Standard & Poor’s (A+) & Moody’s (Aa3)
  • Woody refinanced $116 million in General Obligation Bonds – Reducing the maturity period and providing savings to the taxpayers of $25 million
  • Woody implemented financial discipline and oversight, resulting in clean financial audits each year of his term
